The Carnival of Personal Finance is a great way to see what’s current in the personal finance blogoshere. These are articles you likely wouldn’t come across with a Google search since they’re too fresh to rank highly. Nonethless, there is some great information here and we recommend a visit.

Myth 4: Most people take loans or cash out of their 401k's.

• A loan from a 401k's is sometimes a necessity for a participant, however, nearly four out of five participants have rejected the urge to take out a loan.

• Seven out of 10 participants opt not to cash out of their 401k's in the months following a separation from an employer, instead wisely electing to stay in-plan or rolling over into another qualified retirement account such as an IRA.

Social Security is the largest source of retirement income for households with someone aged 65 or older.
Social Security benefits are the foundation of retirement income for nearly all households with someone aged 65 or older—providing annually inflation-adjusted income for life—and are the source of half or more of total income for about 64 percent of those households. For retired Social Security beneficiaries with the lowest lifetime earnings (up to $9,132 in 2010), Social Security replaces 90 percent of their average annual indexed lifetime earnings if benefit receipt begins at full retirement age. For those at the highest level of earnings covered by Social Security ($106,800 in 2010), Social Security replaces about 26 percent.
